Today was the third day of our trip to LA. So far we have gone 1339 miles and have seen western Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, & Oklahoma. We spent New Years in Dayton, OH as planned (what an experience that was) and last night in St. Louis.
Since we got to St. Louis with quite a bit of daylight to spare, we decided to go into Forest Park and see the Missouri History Museum. For a free exhibit we found it very nice, and educational. They had a section on the World's Fair, Charles Lindbergh, & Missouri then and now. We got there an hour and a half before they were going to close so near 5 we saw a wedding party, bride included, mulling about the lobby and taking pictures. What a wedding in a museum in Missouri on New Years Day.
This morning we had the opportunity to go to the top of the St. Louis arch, the tallest man-made monument in the country, standing at 630ft. We were among the first people to travel to the top in 2011. I say that's pretty awesome.
We also spent a little time on the historic route 66 & saw the world's largest rocking chair at a gift shop along the route. After leafing through a photo book a man put together after driving the route in its entirety from Chicago to LA I decided that I would like to travel the route myself at some point, hopefully in the not so distant future so I would be able to recognize the areas along the route that we have already seen.
Tonight we are in Tulsa, OK. We traveled an hour and a half longer today than we thought so we are hoping to make San Antonio for tomorrow night.
All for now, we'll see what the rest of our adventure has in store for us.
